PUBLIC HEALTH INSECTICIDES
FORMULATIONS FOR THE CONTROL OF DISEASE VECTORS AND PESTS IN PUBLIC HEALTH
Introduction
The effective control of disease vectors and insect pests is essential in ensuring public health in all countries. Our ‘Mostyn’, ‘Hockley’ and ‘Permost’ products will treat most pest problems and can be applied by a wide variety of equipment. Hockley International can formulate products to your specific needs with packaging in all sizes of aluminium, plastic, tin plate and steel containers for liquids; or sachets, bags, cartons and kegs for powders. Labelling is to Hockley International's or your own design in various languages.
Control of Flying Insects
Hockley International offer an effective range of insecticides based on various chemical types for the control of flying insect pests by various application techniques. These powerful insecticides control a wide range of pests including houseflies (Musca domestica) and other flies (Glossina spp., Simulium spp., Phlebotomus, Culicoide and Chrysops spp), mosquitoes (Anopheles, Aedes, Culex, Mansonia spp.) and fleas (Xenopsylla spp., Pulex spp, Ctenocephalides spp).
‘Mostyn’ Brand Thermal Fogging Insecticides
Synergised synthetic pyrethroid blended insecticides in both ready-for-use and concentrate form. The concentrates can be diluted with oil (kerosene or diesel fuel) and applied through all popular machines. Thermal fogs give excellent penetration of the insecticide into dense foliage, closely stacked warehouses, narrow alleys and crowded housing, tents or market stalls.
Products are available in bulk of small packs based on such active ingredients as BIOALLETHRIN, TETRAMETHRIN, CYPERMETHRIN, PERMETHRIN, PHENOTHRIN synergised with PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE.
‘Mostyn’ Brand ULV Insecticides
Synergised synthetic pyrethroid based insecticides in both ready-for-use and concentrate form. The concentrates can be diluted with oil (kerosene or diesel fuel) or water and applied by all popular machines, whether mounted on aircraft, helicopters, trucks or hand held. The small droplets of ULV insecticides can be carefully controlled to give the optimum size for effective insect control. High capacity ULV machines are ideal for treating large areas in towns and cities quickly, whilst small hand held machines utilising product diluted with water are ideal for treating inside housing. 
Products are available in bulk or small packs based on such active ingredients as BIOALLETHRIN, TETRAMETHRIN, ALPHACYPERMETHRIN, CYPERMETHRIN, PERMETHRIN, PHENOTHRIN, and DELTAMETHRIN, all of which can be synergised with PIPERONYL BUTOXIDE. Organophosphorus insecticides based on CHLORPYRIFOS, DIAZINON, FENITROTHION and MALATHION are also available in ULV formulations for use in circumstances where this chemical type is preferred.
Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) Insecticides
For application through conventional spraying equipment, we can offer both emulsifiable concentrates and micro emulsions of formulated pyrethroid mixtures giving quick knockdown and good killing effect. ‘PERMOST’ SRD13 which contains Tetramethrin and Permethrin (25:75) synergised with Piperonyl Butoxide is recommended for most applications. Straight EC's of ALPHACYPERMETHRIN, CYPERMETHRIN and PERMETHRIN are available and give excellent kill, though with little knockdown effect.
Other chemical types of EC's available include low odour formulations of CHLORPYRIFOS-ETHYL together with CHLORPYRIFOS-METHYL, FENITROTHION, MALATHION, DIAZINON and PROPOXUR.
Control of Crawling Insects
Hockley International offer a wide range of residual insecticides based on various chemical types for the control of crawling insects by different application techniques. Best results are obtained if after application, the area is treated with a Thermal Fog or ULV insecticide to ‘flush out’ the insecticides.
Wettable Powder Insecticides
Hockley International produce wettable powder formulations of CYPERMETHRIN (10% & 40% WP), PERMETHRIN - ‘PERMOST’ 25% WP (both 25:75 and 40:60 Cis:Trans) and DELTAMETHRIN (2.5% & 5% WP). These products are available in bulk or small packs. Diluted with water and applied through conventional sprayers, these powerful residual synthetic pyrethroid insecticides will effectively control most types of crawling insects. Our ‘PERMOST’ 25 WP is a popular product in many markets.
Organophosphorus insecticides such as DIAZINON, FENITROTHION and MALATHION are also available in wettable powder formulations if required.
Suspension Concentrates
Becoming increasingly popular, these easy to handle, measure and dilute liquid products have less visible residue after application. The extremely fine particle size of the active ingredient results in highly effective control of crawling insects. Hockley International produces both ALPHACYPERMETHRIN and DELTAMETHRIN Suspension Concentrates (SC's) in a variety of concentrations. Popular strengths are 1.0, 1.25, 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0%. Various pack sizes are available including bottles with ‘built-in’ measure.
Dusts and Granules
Hockley International offer various dust and granule formulations for residual treatments based on CYPERMETHRIN, PERMETHRIN, DELTAMETHRIN, PROPOXUR, MALATHION, DIAZINON and CHLORPYRIFOS. Our ‘PERMOST’ 0.5% - Permethrin Dust is available in shaker packs for amateur use in addition to the bulk packs for professional use.
Insect Control in Food Preparation Areas
For application in abattoirs, food factories, storage and preparation areas, kitchens, dairies, markets and other areas where food is handled, care must be taken to use insecticides of low toxicity, little smell and that are non-irritating and easily metabolised. Permethrin based products from our ‘PERMOST’ range are suitable for most applications. For flying insects, ‘PERMOST’ SRD13 will give rapid knockdown and some residual effect. For crawling insects, ‘PERMOST’ 0.5% DUST or 25 WP diluted and sprayed give excellent control.
Insecticides are no substitute for poor hygiene. All food should be covered before any application of insecticide. Our products are based on Permethrin with a cis:trans isomer ratio of 25:75 which is recognised as the safest for such uses.
Control of Mosquito Larvae
As part of an effective mosquito control programme it is necessary to control not only the adults but also larvae in their breeding grounds of shallow water. ‘MOSTYN’ TEMEPHOS, which is available in both liquid 50 EC and granular 1% and 2% forms, is an effective larvicide for Public Health use in treating standing and flowing water.
Temephos is selectively non-toxic to non-target organisms and may be used to control the larvae of Blackfly (Simulium spp), mosquitoes (Anopheles spp, Aedes spp and Culex spp), biting midges (Ceraptopgonidae) Chironomid midges, moths and sandflies (Psychodidae). Many of these pests are vectors for diseases (eg: Malaria, Oncherociciacis, Dengue Fever etc.), therefore, their control also contributes to eradication of those diseases.
Control of Termites
Subterranean termites cause serious damage to housing and public buildings in many countries. Whilst good design and construction are important, the use of a ‘barrier’ insecticide around the property is essential. ‘MOSTYN’ FENVALERATE or CHLORPYRIFOS based insecticides can be applied to the ground under foundations and in surrounding trenches to form an effective and long lasting insecticide barrier.
Bed Net Impregnation
The World Health Organisation recommends the impregnation of bed nets as the most effective method of controlling malaria-carrying mosquitoes in rural areas. Hockley International supply various synthetic pyrethroid based emulsifiable concentrates, wettable powders or suspension concentrates for this application. Products based on PERMETHRIN are popular due to its low toxicity but we also offer formulations based on ALPHACYPERMETHRIN, CYPERMETHRIN and DELTAMETHRIN. ‘MOSTYN PERMOST’ 20% or 50% EC for bed net impregnation is available in bulk, small packs and custom printed sachets for health projects.
Aerosol Concentrates
We can make concentrates to your exact requirements based on synergised synthetic pyrethroid insecticides or carbamate and organophosphorus insecticides. All are custom made for local dilution and packing of aerosols for domestic and public health use.

Rodenticides
The Hockley range of mouse and rat baits is effective in dealing with rodent pests. Grades available include technical raw materials and concentrates for the local preparation of baits, with and without indicating dye. Ready-for-use baits can be in the form of treated grains, pellets, blocks or in small bags. We can supply products based on the active ingredients BRODIFACOUM, BROMADIOLONE, CHLOROPHACINONE, DIFENACOUM, WARFARIN and ZINC PHOSPHIDE.
Disinfectants
Available in various pack sizes and types including own label.
Pine Disinfectants - Amber or green coloured pine disinfectants in various strengths. Concentrates also available for dilution and packing. Suitable for general use in all hotels, hospitals, public buildings, schools and homes.
Black and White Disinfectants - Available in various strengths, based on a strong phenolic active ingredient. Suitable for use where a powerful, strong- smelling product is required.
Quaternary Steriliser - A highly concentrated odourless steriliser for use in abattoirs, food factories, dairies, kitchens and all application where food is handled. Diluted with water the product is completely odourless so does not affect taste or flavour of food.
Mosep N - A concentrated antiseptic and disinfectant for general use in hospitals, clinics, institutions, schools and in the home. Powerful germ killing action, pleasant to use and sweet smelling.
